This British Standard specifies the chemical composition, mechanical properties and inspection and test requirements for an 18 % nickel-cobalt-molybdenum maraging steel (iron base, Ni 18, Co 7.75, Mo 4.9) supplied in the following forms and as parts for general aerospace use:<\/p>\n

    2 References
    This standard makes reference to the following standards publications:
    BS S 100, Procedure for inspection and testing of wrought steels (other than sheet, strip and tubes).
    BS EN 2500, Guidelines for the preparation and use of standards for metallic materials.
    3 Technical requirements
    3.1 The material in its delivery and use conditions shall comply with Table 1, the format and nomenclature of which comply with BS EN 2500.
    3.2 This standard shall be used in conjunction with BS S 100, as given in Table 1, or as given in 3.3 to 3.5.
    3.3 One sample from the top and bottom of each ingot shall be taken for sulphur printing or deep etching tests.
    3.4 The material shall be overall dressed.
    3.5 Finished parts shall be supplied in the solution treated and maraged condition and shall comply with sections 1 and 7 of BS S 100.
