Three methods for measuring the effects of humidity are described.
\nMethod A is a Steady State Test
\nwhile Methods B and C are Humidity-Temperature Cycling Tests.<\/p>\n

Method A imposes a vapor on the material under test that constitutes
\nthe force behind moisture
\nmigration and penetration. Hygroscopic materials are sensitive to
\nmoisture and may deteriorate
\nrapidly under humidity conditions. Absorption of moisture may result
\nin swelling that would destroy
\nfunctioning utility, and cause loss of physical strength and change in
\nother important mechanical
\nproperties. Degradation of optical properties (and of electrical
\nproperties in composite devices)
\nmay also occur. Although not necessarily intended as a simulated
\ntropical test, this test can,
\nnevertheless, be useful in determining moisture absorption of
\ninsulating or covering materials.<\/p>\n

Methods B and C obtain their added effectiveness by employment of
\ntemperature cycling that provides
\na breathing action, thereby inducing accelerated corrosion processes
\nand the introduction of
\nmoisture into partially sealed devices. This condition imposes a vapor
\npressure on the device which
\nconstitutes the major force behind the moisture migration and
