The electrical characteristics of<br \/>\nthe circuit are specified in terms of required voltage, current,<br \/>\nand resistance values obtained from direct measurements of the<br \/>\ngenerator and receiver components at the interface points. The<br \/>\nlogic function of the generator and the receiver is not defined by<br \/>\nthis Standard, as it is application dependent. The receiver<br \/>\nspecification for the balanced interface is identical to that<br \/>\nspecified for the unbalanced interface circuit in<br \/>\n<strong>TIA\/EIA-423-B.<\/strong> Minimum performance requirements<br \/>\nfor the interconnecting cable are furnished. Guidance is given in<br \/>\nAnnex <strong>A.l<\/strong> with respect to limitations on data<br \/>\nsignal rate imposed by the parameters of the cable length, balance,<br \/>\nand termination, for individual installations.<\/p>\n<p>The parameter values specified for the balanced generator and<br \/>\nload components of the interface are designed such that balanced<br \/>\ninterface circuits may be used within the same interconnection as<br \/>\nunbalanced interface circuits specified by<br \/>\n<strong>TIA\/EIA-423-B.<\/strong> For example, the balanced circuits<br \/>\nmay be used for data and timing while the unbalanced circuits may<br \/>\nbe used for low speed control functions.<\/p>\n<p>It is intended that this Standard will be referenced by other<br \/>\nstandards that specify the complete <strong>DTE\/DCE<\/strong><br \/>\ninterface (<strong>e.g., connector<\/strong>, pin<br \/>\n<strong>assignments<\/strong>, function) for applications where the<br \/>\nelectrical characteristics of a balanced voltage digital circuit<br \/>\nare required. This Standard does not specify other characteristics<br \/>\nof the <strong>DTE\/DCE<\/strong> interface (such as signal quality<br \/>\nand timing, etc.) essential for proper operation across the<br \/>\ninterface.<\/p>\n<p>When this Standard is referenced by other standards or<br \/>\nspecifications, it should be noted that certain options are<br \/>\navailable.
