It introduces support for the following new<br \/>\ncapabilities:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a014.4 kbps Data Rate &#8211; This provides physical layer,<br \/>\nmultiplex layer and signaling layer support for a new family of<br \/>\ntransmission rates, including 14.4 kbps, 7.2 kbps, 3.6 kbps and 1.8<br \/>\nkbps rates.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Enhanced Service Negotiation &#8211; This provides the means for<br \/>\nestablishing a common service configuration for use by the mobile<br \/>\nstation and base station. The service configuration can include<br \/>\nmultiple active service options and can maker&#039;s of both primary and<br \/>\nsecondary traffic. Backward compatibility with service option<br \/>\nnegotiation, as specified in TIA\/EIA\/IS-95-A, is maintained.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0Enhanced Status Messaging &#8211; This provides the means for<br \/>\nthe base station to ascertain the detailed capabilities of the<br \/>\nmobile station, such as supported band classes, operating modes,<br \/>\nservice options, multiplex options, and rate sets.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0Redirection and Handoff to PCS &#8211; This provides the means<br \/>\nfor redirecting and handing off the mobile station to a digital<br \/>\nwideband spread spectrum system operating within the 1.8 to 2.0 GHz<br \/>\nfrequency range, as specified by ANSI J-STD-008, and permits the<br \/>\nmobile station to select a PCS system during the system selection<br \/>\nprocess.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0MIN to IMSI Transition Support &#8211; This provides an<br \/>\nimproved means for making the transition from MIN-based addressing<br \/>\nto IMSI-based addressing.<\/p>\n<p>This TSB uses the same structure and section numbering as<br \/>\nTIA\/EIA\/IS-95-A. Sections of this TSB that remain unchanged<br \/>\nrelative to IS-95-A are represented using ellipses contained within<br \/>\nbrackets ([&#8230;]). Modified sections are either reproduced in their<br \/>\nentirety or use the [&#8230;] notation to represent unchanged portions.<br \/>\nWithin modified sections, change bars indicate the specific<br \/>\nparagraphs, figures, or table cells that have changed.
