Scope<\/strong><\/p>\n 1.1<\/span> This test method covers the separation and determination of representative aromatics and nonaromatics fractions from hydrocarbon mixtures that boil between 232\u2009\u00b0C and 538\u2009\u00b0C (450\u2009\u00b0F and 1000\u2009\u00b0F). Alternative procedures are provided for the separation of 2\u2009g or 10\u2009g of hydrocarbon mixture.<\/p>\n Note 1:<\/span> Some components may not be eluted from the chromatographic column for some types of samples under the conditions used in this method.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n Note 2:<\/span> Test Method D2007<\/span> is an alternative method of separating high-boiling oils into polar compounds, aromatics, and saturates fractions.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n 1.2<\/span> An alternative procedure is provided to handle samples boiling below 232\u2009\u00b0C (450\u2009\u00b0F), but whose 5\u2009% point is above 178\u2009\u00b0C (350\u2009\u00b0F) as determined by Test Method D2887<\/span>. This procedure is given in Appendix X1<\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n 1.3<\/span> The values stated in acceptable SI units are to be regarded as the standard.
