This document specifies requirements and methods for the detection of sufficient chemical compatibility with the mechanisms of softening by swelling, stress crack initiation and combinations thereof and applies to – plastic drums and canisters in accordance with 6.1.4.8 of RID/ADR, – combination packagings (plastic) with plastics inner receptacle according to 6.1.4.19 of RID/ADR, – rigid plastics IBCs (types 31H1 and 31H2) in accordance with RID/ADR 6.5.5.3; and – combination IBCs with rigid plastics inner receptacle (art. 31HZ1) in accordance with RID/ADR 6.5.5.4. The proof of sufficient chemical compatibility is only applicable to the above-mentioned packaging and IBC types of the following materials and material specifications: – packaging and IBCs made of polyethylene (PE), – packagings and IBCs made of polyethylene (PE), the inner surface of which is fluorinated, and – packagings and IBCs produced by coextrusion blow moulding, the walls of which have the following multilayer structure (from the inside to the outside): polyamide (PA)/adhesive//polyethylene (PE) or ethylvinyl alcohol (EVOH)//adhesive//polyethylene (PE).
