Scope
1.1 General
This Standard provides requirements for the design, manufacture, construction, modification, erection and dismantling, operation, inspection, testing, and maintenance of amusement devices and rides.
Where any Clause of this Standard is at variance with the referenc ed Codes and Standards, the requirements of this Standard govern.
The requirements of this Standard are adequate under conditions normally encountered in the industry. Requirements for abnormal or unusual conditions are not specifically provided, nor are all details of engineering and construction prescribed.
For the purpose of this Standard, the term amusement ride or ride includes amusement devices.
1.2 Additional Guidelines
This Standard also provides non-mandatory guidelines for
(a) water slides (Appendix A); and
(b) go-karts (Appendix B).
1.3 Existing Amusement Rides or Devices
For an existing amusement ride or device, the requirements provided by this Standard for operation, maintenance, testing, modification, erection and dismantling, if applicable, and inspection apply.
Note: Existing equipment installed in compliance with previous editions of this Standard may not comply with the new design requirements.
1.4 Exceptions
In case of novel design, or new configurations that cannot be precisely classified, or cases of reported nonconformance, exceptions from the requirement may be made, provided that equivalent safety is provided.
1.5 Exemptions
This Standard does not apply to
(a) amusement devices or rides that are designed and used as coin-operated devices or rides;
(b) passenger ropeways conforming to CSA Standard CAN/CSA-Z98;
(c) elevating devices conforming to CSA Standard CAN/CSA-B44;
(d) childrens playspaces and equipment conforming to CSA Standard Z614;
(e) soft contained play systems conforming to ASTM Standard F 1918, other than stand-alone air-supported structures;
(f) amusement devices operated by muscular power;
(g) recoil tethered rides (bungee); and
(h) hot-air balloons.
1.6 Units of Measure
