The scope of this document is to define the logical link control
\nlayer, or LLC layer, of the wideband air interface (WAI). The
\nwideband air interface called Uw is the interface between the fixed
\nnetwork equipment (FNE) and the subscriber units, or directly
\nbetween subscriber units in a wideband system. The general wideband
\nsystem model is shown in Figure 1 and illustrates the Radio to FNE
\nMode of operation. A Vehicular Repeater (VR) may additionally act
\nas a relay between FS and MR when coverage limitations require the
\nuse of this local coverage area extension.<\/p>\n
The Wideband Air Interface (WAI) reference point Uw is between
\nthe BR and MR, or MR to MR, and is used for wireless communications
\nbetween these functional groups. OSI layers 1 and 2 are the
\nspecified scope of the implementation of the Uw services. The LLC
\nlayer is the highest sublayer of OSI layer 2 and directly
\ninterfaces with the MAC\/RLA layer.<\/p>\n
This document concentrates on the wideband air interface logical
\nlink control layer, whose function is to define the procedures and
\nmessage formats that permit virtually error free (optional)
\ntransmission of LLC frames over the point-topoint or
\npoint-to-multipoint MRC to FNE, or MRC to MRC RF link.<\/p>\n
The functions allocated to the LLC layer include the following
\nmajor aspects:<\/p>\n

\ntransmission<\/p>\n
\u2022 Logical link management<\/p>\n
\u2022 Segmentation and re-assembly of packets<\/p>\n
