CSA Preface<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is the third edition of CAN\/CSA-C22.2 No. 60335-2-56, Household and similar electrical appliances \u2014 Safety \u2014 Part 2-56: Particular requirements for projectors and similar appliances<\/em>, which is an adoption, with Canadian deviations, of the identically titled IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) Standard 60335-2-56 (edition 3:2002 consolidated with Amendment 1:2008 and Amendment 2:2014). It supersedes the previous edition published in 2001 as CAN\/CSA-E60335-2-56 (adopted IEC 60335-2-56:1997), and it replaces CSA C22.2 No. 118-1959, Construction and test of picture machines and appliances. It is one in a series of Standards issued by CSA Group under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This Standard is intended to be used in conjunction with CAN\/CSA-C22.2 No. 60335-1:11, Safety of household and similar appliances \u2014 Part 1: General requirements (adopted IEC 60335-1:2001+A1:2004 +A2:2006, with Canadian deviations).<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Scope<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This clause of Part 1 is replaced by the following.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This International Standard deals with the safety of electric projectors and similar appliances for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 effects projectors;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 film-strip projectors;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 film viewers;<\/p>\n

\u2013 microscope projectors;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 motion-picture projectors;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 opaque projectors (episcopes);<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 opaque-transparency projectors (epidiascopes);<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 overhead projectors;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 photographic enlargers;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 photo-reproduction appliances;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 slide projectors (diascopes);<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 slide-sorting appliances.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 still viewers.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Appliances may incorporate sound amplifiers.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Appliances not intended for normal household use, but which nevertheless may be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances intended for use by laymen in schools, offices, shops and similar locations are within the scope of this standard.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

As far as practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by appliances which are encountered by all persons in and around the home. However, in general, it does not take into account<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 persons (including children) whose<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2022 physical, sensory or mental capabilities; or<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2022 lack of experience and knowledge<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

prevents them from using the appliance safely without supervision or instruction;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 children playing with the appliance.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

NOTES 102 Attention is drawn to the fact that<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements may be necessary;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 in many countries additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour, and similar authorities.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 IEC 60598-1 is applicable as far as is reasonable.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 LCD and video projectors (IEC 60065);<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 micrographic office equipment (IEC 60950);<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 motion picture projectors for films having a width exceeding 16 mm;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas);<\/p>\n
