This Standard specifies the testing method of sealing by the dye-spot test on anodic oxidation coatings (hereafter referred to as "coatings") applied to the products manufactured from aluminium and aluminium alloys (hereafter referred to as "products").

This method is suitable for use as a production control method and is applicable to coatings which may be subjected to weathering or aggressive environments, or where resistance to staining or others is important.

However, the results of this method may be incorrect where nickel salts, cobalt salts, organic additives, etc. are added to the sealing solution.

This method is not applicable to the following coatings.

a) Coatings formed on alloys containing 2 % or more of copper and/or 4 % or more of silicon

b) Coatings sealed by dichromate

c) Coatings given supplementary processing, e.g., oiling, waxing or lacquering

d) Coatings coloured in deep shades

e) Coatings of less than 3 µm thick

NOTE : The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows :

ISO 2143 : 2010 Anodizing of aluminium and its alloys — Estimation of loss of absorptive power of anodic oxidation coatings after sealing — Dye-spot test with prior acid treatment (MOD)

The symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/IEC Guide 21-1.
