This Standard specifies safety requirements for portable pedestal luminaires for use in places such as gardens and for portable luminaires for use in places such as flower beds (generically referred to as "portable luminaires for garden use", and hereafter shortened as "luminaires"), for use with tungsten filament, tubular fluorescent and other discharge lamps on supply voltages not exceeding 250 V.

However, the stationary luminaires such as stone lanterns to be installed in garden shall be outside the scope of this Standard.

The portable luminaires for garden use include a type that is fixed by sticking a spike into the earth and a type that is fixed by a clamp (such as thumbscrews that are detachable by hand), etc.

The luminaires of embedded type are not included.

NOTE: The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows.

IEC 60598-2-7 : 1982 Luminaires.

Part 2 : Particular requirements) Section Seven – Portable luminaires for garden use) Amendment 1 : 1987 and Amendment 2 : 1994 (MOD)

In addition, symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/IEC Guide 21-1.
