Airborne surveillance applications, such as the In-Trail Procedure (ITP). facilitate the climb and descent of aircraft during the en-route phase to achieve optimal flight levels in environments where the absence of air traffic service (ATS) surveillance service or the application of large separation minima is a limiting factor. The system benefit of the ITP is significant suel savings enabling greater payloads to be uplifted. This document provides information on ITP, its separation minimum and the work undertaken by ICAO in this regard. It is aimed at a worldwide audience of the civil aviation authorities and serivce providers responsible for implementing ITP.
