ESDU Struct 03.06.14 provides a graph plotting the variation around the circumference of the frame of the ratio of the shear force in the frame to the applied radial load. A number of curves are presented, each for a particular value of the effective skin-frame stiffness ratio. That parameter, defined in the abstract for ESDU Struct 03.06.17, involves an effective frame spacing, the value of which may be found using ESDU Struct 03.06.17. The applied radial load is assumed to act in the plane of the frame and to be balanced by tangential shear forces in the shell due to displacement of the frame as a whole and its deformation from a circular shape. The assumptions made in deriving the graph are summarised in ESDU Struct 03.06.00. A worked example illustrates the use of the data. For the distribution of shear forces in the frame due to a concentrated couple or a tangential load, see ESDU Struct 03.06.12 or 13.
